What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

Ballooning with Black Hills Balloons is an experience of a lifetime. Ballooning over the Black Hills in the early morning with the mist is indescribably beautiful. You can’t experience this any other way. I would highly recommend.

My wife has wanted to go for a balloon ride ever since I've known her, but i was concerned that I would spend the hour terrified. As it turned out, neither of us experienced even a second of fear! it was certainly a top 10 highlight in my fun filled 60 year life. The pilot Damien and his wife make excellent hosts so we had so much fun from the time we arrived until it was time to leave. I really don't think that there are very many places where the views from the balloon could be better than here in the Black Hills. Our trip included times when we were almost skimming the top of the trees to others when we were over 500 feet above everything. This is so much different from flying in any other type of aircraft, so there is really nothing else like it. Damien's skills as a pilot are immediately apparent, so the entire trip was spent marveling at the sights and zero time worrying. When it was time to land ... which would have been too soon no matter how long the ride ... Damien was able to softly put the balloon down between trees where I would have never imagined it could fit. This was intended to be a once in a lifetime experience, but after the experience we had at BHB we are planning a family ride for next year.

This was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. First off, they make you feel completely safe, they explain how everything works in detail so you understand, and they won’t fly if they think the weather is windy or unsafe and will schedule you for another day. The views were incredible over the forest, the ride was smooth and seamless. The crew were passionate and very funny and made you feel like close friends. They included champagne and snacks and taught us about hot air ballooning history after the ride, you can tell these guys love what they do. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience worth having.
