What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

What an incredible experience!! We couldn't have asked for a more amazing business to help us check "ride in a hot air balloon" off our bucket list. From the "highly scientific" test of the wind direction, getting to watch the balloon being inflated, boarding the basket, taking off, riding over beautiful Custer state park, and then the landing. WOW !!! The attention to detail cannot be surpassed!! Black HIlls Balloons is the place to go up up and away when you are visiting Mount Rushmore!

My daughter brought Black Hills Balloons to my attention as we were planning our trip to the Black Hills, but thought there wouldn’t be much chance of it actually happening. To be able to surprise her with a morning flight was a completely priceless experience! First things first... arrival at 5:00 AM is tough. But to fly at sunrise when winds are gentle and photo opportunities are perfect? Totally worth an early wake up call for a once in a lifetime experience. From the moment we arrived the pilots and staff take great care of you. They outline the experience, make sure you’re well-briefed in safety, and get you ready to go. You’ll be driven to a launch site, and witness everything that goes into ballooning. The flight is unreal, unlike any other kind of flying. So gentle, peaceful, and calm. And amazing views. Words can’t really express how amazing it is. Absolutely breathtaking. Landing can be interesting, but their experienced pilots make sure it’s done safely and that you’re taken care of well. And the post flight traditions cap everything off perfectly. If you’re looking to fulfill a bucket list item, or just to experience something amazing, take a flight with these folks. You won’t regret it for a second.

What an exhilarating experience! We choose to go with this company after I did some research online. Our pilot Mike was great. We have so many pictures and a wonderful memory. Damien and Keely are great. When we landed we had a champagne toast and some snacks. Don't miss out on this experience!
