What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

Cancellation Policy

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

The staff and the owners are absolutely wonderful. They made the experience just perfect for us. We had the best time. Definitely the best way to see the Hills. I’ve actually been on the ride twice, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you so much!!

This was an incredible experience! Flying through the black hills at sunrise was one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had. Completely serenity while floating through the sky punctuated by Damien's incredible jokes really made my trip to the black hills unforgettable! Something you absolutely must do if you're in the area. Thank you Black Hills Balloons!

What an amazing experience! We LOVED every minute! My husband and I have lived in the Custer area our whole lives but the perspective of seeing the hills from a hot air balloon was fantastic! Seeing wildlife, rock outcroppings, historical sites and beautiful lakes and streams was wonderful - highly recommend to any and all! Damien was a true professional and we felt so safe and sound floating with the wind above the birds. His guiding narrative was well done and very informative. The whole crew was upbeat, professional and made us feel well taken care of - plus the bonus of a champagne toast at the end of the flight made it even more memorable! We will recommend Black Hills Balloons to all our friends and family as well as any guests and visitors to the Custer area - who want to experience something truly magnificent!
