What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

This was our first hot air balloon ride. We didn't know what to expect. The result, a smooth and exciting ride through the Black Hills. The pilot was very knowledgeable and told great stories and jokes which made the ride very interesting. Mother Nature cooperated wonderfully which allowed us a 75 minute ride with sunny skies and cool weather. The only negative was we had 12 people in the basket which made it difficult to see in all directions, but my pictures turned out great and I made a wonderful video using the 5th Dimension song, "Up, Up and Away" (I posted it on Facebook but was told to remove it due copyright violations - but I still have the original). The Champaign toast with its historical story was a great way to end the event.

My daughter and I decided to do our first Hot Air Balloon ride with Black Hills and it was FANTASTIC! Our "driver" was very knowledgeable and made me feel especially comfortable since I didn't know if I would be scared or not. It was too beautiful to be scary! I would recommend it to every one from the early morning start to watch the balloon being inflated to a perfect landing! Thanks guys! It was great!
