What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

I can NOT believe we did this!!!!! It was such an adrenaline rush, but I felt 100% safe!!!! Mother Nature can be unpredictable, but if she behaves, you should go!!! It is a totally different experience...the views, the sounds, the sights...WoW. The champagne toast with crackers and wine with Damien and Elijah made the ride up in the blue skies even more fun!!!

We were visiting Sturgis for the rally and always wanted to fly in a hot air balloon. You meet before sunrise in Custer and we were picked up by Damien the owner / pilot. He and his crew set things up and we were off. We flew for about an hour over Custer State Park on a perfect morning. We saw deer and cows but no bison this trip unfortunately. We didn't go as high as possible because of the lack of wind I'm told but that was fine with me. It was spectacular and so much fun. Afterwards we had mimosas and cheese and crackers. We can't wait to do it again.

Thank you for the review. It's true, we have to use the winds available to get to our landing site; sometimes it's high, sometimes it's low. We're thrilled you enjoyed the flight, mimosas and snacks!

Just had a family ride in hot air balloon. Everyone should do this. It was amazing.The ride was so calm and peaceful as we were floating. The staff are clearly expert and have great humor. There were three balloons going up this morning and the ages of riders went from elementary school to grandparents. Everyone had a wonderful time! Absolutely would do this again and it’s well worth the price. And don’t worry about chilly morning temperatures. Once in the basket, the heat from the propane warms plenty. We did sweatshirts in 50 degree early August and that worked.
