This establishment was highly recommended by our travel agent (whom I also graduated high school with) and we were not disappointed in the professionalism and trip to view the whales. Captain Scott and our naturalist (sorry, can't remember her name) were great at spotting things out on the water and guiding us through our myriad of questions. It was nice to be on a smaller vessel and feel closer to the animals, even though we had to keep the required distance. Everyone on board was able to get great views and photos from both the bow and stern of the boat. We were also treated to a breach by a humpback, which was the highlight of the trip. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't see more whales (I believe we trailed 5 different whales), nor did we see any Orcas. However, as several other people have commented (and our guides as well), the orcas are spotted very sporadically. It was still a beautiful day on the water to view the wildlife in their natural setting. I could've spent the entire out there!

The driver (Juneau native) was excellent in both knowledge of the whales and finding them. We saw a number of Humpback Whales, Sea Lions and Bald Eagles on our trip. These were the best pictures I had on my phone, but we got many other excellent shots with the camera.

We booked this because of the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the professionalism of both the captain (Gabe) and the “naturalist” (Regina). We did see whales, so I gave the trip two stars. However, here are a few examples of why we were not impressed. When we saw the first whale, we were sitting behind the captain and he said to open our windows to get a better view. My window, however, was shared with the captain and was like a sliding door (sideways). I opened my window to get a picture when Gabe pulled out a big camera and pushed the window open on his side (which left my side open about 4 inches), turned to me and said, “that’s all you get,” and proceeded to click away with his own camera. Gabe would race to each destination and brag that he would “sneak up” on the bigger boats (Gastinau Guiding). My travel partner tried to engage him in dialog about what we were seeing, but he simply answered yes and no, with no elaboration. Regina did the best she could, but was NOT a trained naturalist. No degree or any kind of training. She even said to us at the end of the tour that she has considered taking a tour on some of the competitors’ vessels so she could listen to their naturalists because, as she said, “I think my stuff is right, but I’d like to know what they say.” After having taken other tours with naturalists in the past, I can attest that they all do their homework, are prepared, and are knowledgeable. On this trip however, Regina was a naturalist in name only. For $145 per person, plus tax and gratuities, we were out a substantial amount of money for a sub-par tour.
