Kawaihae Whale Watch - Guaranteed

Overview
Every winter, thousands of humpback whales travel to the warm, shallow waters of Hawai‘i to mate, give birth, and raise their young. Learn the true scale of humpback whales through an intimate encounter on a small-group whale watch, where every seat is a front seat. Get off the beaten path and sail past sheer cliff walls of the windward Kohala shoreline as you discover breathtaking vistas of both Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Discover whales and the perfect perspective close to the water to allow for a once-in-a-lifetime viewing. Ocean stewardship is deeply embedded in Native Hawaiian culture. Humpback whales, or koholā, are an important part of history, legends, and connection to the sea.

It was a beautiful day and captain and crew were attentive and very personable. The only thing was, they started preparing us for the possibility that we weren’t going to see any whales early on… and they were right. we were issued a voucher for another trip since there’s a guarantee, however, I wasn’t planning on returning. I think the description should tell you that the possibility of seeing them in early December is very slim. It was a lovely two hour private boat ride though. We did see dolphins and flying fish.

Even though we didn't see any whales, we saw a pod of spinner dolphins and they sure put on a show for us! Wow!! Julie and Faith were very knowledgeable and they made our excursion very exciting! We had a great time!

I booked this trip because it originally said it was in Hilo and so the day we were in Hilo they wanted us to drive back to kona, which is just not fun when you want to things on a new part of the island. I asked for a refund and they didn't give me one. It was also very stormy the day that they went out with high winds and lightning. I talked to several locals when back in kona to fly home and 4 said they wouldn't have gone out, 2 were captains. To say I was disappointed is an understatement
