Kealakekua Bay Snorkel

Overview
Enjoy a morning on the water on this small boat cruise as we cruise south down the Kona Coast to the pristine Kealakekua Ba keeping our eyes open for large pelagic animals. Enjoy snorkeling in this bay which is often a resting place for the Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins and home to many of Hawaii's endemic fish. We will explore the sea caves and lava tubs from old lava flows on the way home.

Me and my husband did the "Kealakekua Bay/Capt Cook Monument Snorkel Tour" on a zodiac raft with Mike and Luisa. This was probably one of our favorite days in Hawaii! We had a blast zipping along the ocean on the zodiac raft. Mike and Luisa were very friendly and helpful. Mike spotted some spinner dolphins swimming by our raft, and he stopped the raft and let us all jump out and snorkel with them! Amazing! We got great pictures of the dolphins with our underwater cameras. We stopped in Kealakekua Bay, and did some snorkeling there for a few hours. The water was clear and beautiful, and we saw many different kinds of brightly colored fish. For lunch we had tasty chicken salad wraps, fresh pineapple slices, chips, granola bars, and fruit juice. It was very delicious, specially after swimming in the ocean for so long. On the way back we stopped at various sites, and saw lava tubes. Mike and Luisa told us stories of the islands history. They were very fun tour guides, and we really enjoyed the time. Overall it was a great day, and we would definitely recommend Splasher's to others!

I've been on Splasher's Ocean Adventures Day snorkeling trip to Kealakekua Bay and the night time Manta Snorkel. Both excursions are a lot of fun. The Captain and Zack are knowledgeable and friendly. Whether youā€™ve never snorkeled or are a pro they take really good care of everyone. Itā€™s a nice size zodiac type boat so you donā€™t have a huge crowd of people. I highly recommend both excursions.

This tour leaves from the Kailua Bay pier and uses a 27-foot rigid bottom inflatable with a little shade cover. Most people sit on the edges of the pontoons. Had a crew of three to pilot the boat, help with gear, and explain points of interest. Crew provides snorkeling gear, eco-friendly sunscreen, sandwiches and chips, plus drinks including soda, water and beer. All the crew were very friendly and knowledgeable. Crew tries to spot dolphins on the way down the coast with varied success depending on the dolphins. Our tour came close to a few dolphins but not close enough to swim with them although the crew tried. Snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay was OK but nothing special. A lot of area beaches are better. The bay was pretty calm, minimal wave action. Water drops off rapidly in the bay so you don't see much there. Not much colorful coral and not too many bottom dwellers. Better viewing was closer to the shore. Captain did some fancy moves on the way back, going right up to the cliffs and into some caves. Best views on the way, including the dolphins, are in the far front of the boat but it gets bumpy and wet up there. No restrooms on board. Price was good for a snorkeling trip in Kona.
