Our Manta Policy: Manta Rays are wild animals and Hawaii Island and Ocean Tours cannot guarantee their presence. If a manta ray is not seen on your night out with us you may try again on a different night, or on your next visit. Guests who purchased tickets at our full online booking price may come back out again for free. Tickets purchased through a 3rd party (such as TripAdvisor/Viator/Expedia...etc) or at a discounted rate may join again for an additional $30 per person. Please keep in mind that seats may be extremely limited during certain times of the year. We usually are very successful in finding mantas for you; however if they decide to take the night off the costs involved with setting up the charter will not allow us to offer you a refund. We appreciate your business and understanding of this policy.

Unbelievable!! So thrilling! We couldn’t have imagined what was in store before we experienced the manta rays swimming literally inches from our faces. We will never forget this exciting and beautiful activity!

Seeing the Manta Ray and how they swim right up to you is just amazing! It’s an experience that will last a lifetime! Our crew members were awesome and were very informative! I definitely would recommend doing this!!

First off, our excursion that was to begin at 10:20 pm, started 40 minutes late. As we got on the boat, our captain apologized for the rough waters and told us that he considered canceling the trip but decided not to. We stayed out in the rough waters 40 minutes and only saw one or two mana rays fly by. Our guide told us that the mana rays most likely already had their full of fish and were off resting somewhere. This pretty well described our very disappointing excursion.

Aloha Robin and thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that the mantas were not as active on your first tour out with us and that the conditions were choppier than normal. We strive to share a positive experience with our guests, but understand that sometimes there are other factors simply out of our control. To review, your tour was set to start at 10:20pm for check-in and depart at 11:00pm to do the snorkel, thus putting your tour on time. Before going out on our boat guests are fitted with snorkel gear, wetsuits, checked off on signing waivers, receive boat safety instructions and a detailed manta briefing. This is all to be completed in a 40 minute window before getting on the boat. Despite the wind picking up the conditions were still safe to go out in and our captain didn't want to exclude you from the tour after you had already driven down to our location and were prepped and ready to go. In the future, we have instructed our captains to give the guest(s) the option to go out or not if conditions are safe but are rougher than usual or if anyone is uncomfortable snorkeling in choppy waters. I know that you were able to speak with our office manager Alisha and that she was able to work with you regarding this experience. I hope that we were able to meet your expectations and improve upon your first outing with us. If so, we would love to hear about your morning snorkel and Honokohau trips.
