What To Expect
1
Kenai Fjords National Park
In Kenai Fjords National Park, over half of the landmass is covered by the enormous Harding Icefield, a thousand-foot block of ice that dates back to the last Ice Age. The Harding spills out in all directions in the form of glaciers. Some stretch northwest into rugged hills of the Kenai Peninsula. Others—five of them, to be exact—reach as far as the sea along the craggy coast of the Gulf of Alaska.
2
Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge
Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of 2,400 islands, headlands, rocks, islets, spires and reefs and is known for its abundance of seabirds.

About a 6 hour shore excursion from our cruise ship in Sewaed, Alaska... Saw orcas, humpbacks, sea otters, sea lions, and the most beautiful glacier up close. Tour included lunch and non alcoholic drinks. We enjoyed it immensely.

We took a six-hour cruise through Resurrection Bay, into Aialik Bay, up to Holgate Glacier, out to the Chiswell Islands, and back to Seward, with Captain Mike and a friendly, knowledgeable crew of six. We saw at least a dozen humpback whales, several sea otters, numerous Steller sea lions, a bald eagle, puffins, kittiwakes, murres, and other seabirds. The boat was comfortable and easy to get around (about half full), with upper and lower closed and open decks, and the lunch was good. Highlights included Spire Cove, Aialik Cape, Holgate and Surprise Glaciers, and the Chiswell Islands teeming with wildlife in the air, water, and on land. The captain's narration was informative and entertaining, and crew members answered my questions well. I especially appreciated the screens all over the cabins showing our position and surroundings. Parking was a few blocks from the dock, with a frequent shuttle. Drivers, onshore staff, and boat crew could not have been more helpful and friendly. I'd recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see glaciers and wildlife in this area.

The tour is on a very nice, spacious, clean ship. The captain was knowledgeable and stopped frequently so passengers could whale watch. We also saw seals, sea otters and a various kinds of birds. The only mar was the weather, not controllable by the tour company. It was cold and rainy. Choppy seas. No issues going over, but coming back, we had just had lunch. I don't recommend eating lunch 30 minutes before your're about to cross choppy seas.
