What To Expect
1
Kenai Fjords National Park
In Kenai Fjords National Park, over half of the landmass is covered by the enormous Harding Icefield, a thousand-foot block of ice that dates back to the last Ice Age. The Harding spills out in all directions in the form of glaciers. Some stretch northwest into rugged hills of the Kenai Peninsula. Others—five of them, to be exact—reach as far as the sea along the craggy coast of the Gulf of Alaska.
2
Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge
Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of 2,400 islands, headlands, rocks, islets, spires and reefs and is known for its abundance of seabirds.

Stunningly beautiful the day we cruised, which, I'm told, is rare for September in Alaska. Worth it if it were pouring rain. Bay is gorgeous, and the glacier is a real treat, even if it doesn't calve right in front of you. We did the six-hour tour and sighted numerous animals, including seals on ice floes, Stellar sea lions, puffins, sea otters, orcas, and one humpback whale. The food on the ship was fabulous, and the buffet is absolutely worth what they charge; they aren't kidding about it being "all you can eat" prime rib and salmon + dessert. This is a great activity for all ages, a bit of a challenge for anyone in a wheelchair but still doable on the main deck. This is an efficient operation from start to finish. A "must do".

I took this tour on an overcast, misty day and didn’t know if I’d see very much. Even with the dreary weather, it was well worth the trip. I took the train from Anchorage which was an excellent way to get here & worth the extra time vs. a tour bus. We departed for our tour and within minutes we saw a bald eagle perched near a pier. After that, it was a beautiful ride past lovely scenery. During the tour, we saw several bears on shore, many sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, puffins and a pod of 8-10 orcas in addition to really interesting islands and glaciers. The provided meal was ok. It was a cold chicken wrap with your choice of dressing pouches at the table and a bag of chips - towards the end of the tour you get a warm chocolate chip cookie which was nice. The captain of the boat did a nice job of turning the boat around so each side would be able to see most of the sites. There were a few times he has to remind parents to keep their children quiet to ensure the animals weren’t scared away (with mixed results). Overall, this was a wonderful tour and I’d highly recommend it. It was amazing to see so much on one tour.

What an experience! Took this tour in September when crowds were smaller and weather was meant to be cold and overcast but we had exceptional weather with clear blue skies and 20°c temperature. The boat was not overcrowded with plenty of space for everyone to see the sights without having to push past or peer between people. We set off ftom Seward and within a few hundred metres passed by a sea otter swimming on its back eating a large crab. The captain was very good at providing a commentary on everything we saw and we saw some wondrous sights including several pods of Orcas that swam alongside and under the boat for ages. We saw many seabirds, harbour seals, eagles and several more sea otters. We passed by several glaciers and stopped by Aialik glacier where we stayed long enough to see it calving. The crack of the ice as it split and the noise as it crashed to the sea was incredible. We were a quarter of a mile away yet due to the sheer size and scale it felt like we were within touching distance. The glacier was 1 mile wide and 600ft high! The scenery on this trip was spectacular. Lunch was provided - a chicken wrap which was delicious. Someone dropped a paper cup overboard and the captain and crew turned the boat around and managed to fish it out so as not to pollute this pristine environment. Highly recommended tour.
