What To Expect
1
Kenai Fjords National Park
In Kenai Fjords National Park, over half of the landmass is covered by the enormous Harding Icefield, a thousand-foot block of ice that dates back to the last Ice Age. The Harding spills out in all directions in the form of glaciers. Some stretch northwest into rugged hills of the Kenai Peninsula. Others—five of them, to be exact—reach as far as the sea along the craggy coast of the Gulf of Alaska.
2
Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge
Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of 2,400 islands, headlands, rocks, islets, spires and reefs and is known for its abundance of seabirds.

We were able to see all the marine animals and some beautiful scenery. I enjoyed the glacier ice cocktail too. It is more impressive to see the glaciers up close, and hear the calving. It is a trip worth doing. I recommend the 6 hour tour, and remember to book ahead and watch the weather. Plenty of parking for those who drive in.

GREAT cruiser. We saw humpbacks just outside the harbor We now know that seagulls flock to where the whales are going to surface. We saw bald eagles, a mountain goat, and a sea otter. Then we got to the glacier. Gorgeous! The captain took us right next to the front. We saw over ten ‘calvings’, we were told to the recent spate of 70degree temps. The high point was pod of orca we watched at close range playing and fishing. The captain (very knowledgeable) told us he rarely saw all them on the same voyage. Could’ve been a sales gimmick, but I was happy. On this boat we discovered that my wife was seasickable. Spent much of the trip being sick. The crew was experienced with this, attentive, had suggestions that included moving to the bottom rear deck where the boat rocks less, and were a great help. Between bouts I went on deck to take pics. The idea of wearing layers is proven here. The temps dropped over 40degrees inside an hour and many of us returned inside when our fingers were to stiff to operate the cameras. We highly recommend this trip. Get Dramamine before you go, just in case.

Six hour cruise was terrific - saw orca and belluga whales, otters, sea lions, puffins and many other marine birds, to name a few. Captain was knowledgeable and staff was friendly and helpful. Suggest bringing your own food - lunch was ok. Don't take this if you are prone to sea sickness though - there were several on our boat who learned this the hard way! Other than that note, highly recommend!!
