The downtown area was terribly crowded with cruise passengers in port, as well as hundreds of others. Parking was a nightmare, and as there are few other ways to get to Key West, it is ridiculous not to have some planning for the number of visitors who come by car. Parking rates at the several city lots, and all along most streets varies by day and time, and is an absurd system. The most hours you can purchase is 10, yet the system is in force for 12! Some lots charge $5 an hour one day, $13 an hour the next, with a two hour minimum and a 10 1/2 % fee on top. Lines at the most popular tourist sights are long. No benches in most places. A real problem for people who canāt walk or stand for many hours at a time. Have been to Key West in the past, and disappointed to discover that over-tourism has ruined the āvibeā, and the distinctly different pleasures that once were there. Food even at the so-called best restaurants is mediocre. At the standard fare places, really pretty bad.
