What To Expect
1
Kona Inn Shopping Village
Built on ancients grounds, the Kona Inn was responsible for ushering in the era of tourism in Kona. The site was formerly home to King Kamehameha II and is known as "papa'ula" or "red flats" as there may have been human sacrifice here as well. End the tour with a cleansing sage smudge at the new Big Island Ghost Tours booth.
2
Hulihe'e Palace
Will the ghostly "lady in white" of the palace show herself again? Was it Pele, or Princess Kaiulani? We've witnessed her on tour once before...and then she disappeared!
3
Mokuaikaua Hawaii's 1st Christian Church
The lava rock cornerstones of Hawaii's very first Christian church were formerly part of an ancient Hawaiian temple, built hundreds of years in the past. This newly introduced religion eventually led to events that are considered Hawaii's civil war and the end of the ancient Kapu system.
4
Ahuena Heiau
A former sacrificial heiau (luakini) dedicated to the god Ku where human sacrifice was performed, then later rededicated by King Kamehameha to the god Lono as a temple of peace.
5
Kamakahonu Beach
This is the location where King Kamehameha I transitioned into the next life, and also the site of ancient human sacrifice.
6
Kailua Pier
The central meeting place in downtown Kona, where missionaries arrived bringing western religion to the islands.

He was nice but expected more out of the ghost tour. We did not get to go inside the palace or the church. It was more of a history lesson of the island.

Sorry to not meet your expectations. The palace and church are closed at night and we’ve never advertised that we go inside. Not sure where that expectation came from. But appreciate the feedback, thanks.

Our host was kind and knowledgeable about the history of the island and town. I would recommend this tour,

I enjoyed what we heard but there was not 2 hours of content. It finished after an hour 20! Weird to be left at a different place than the tour started too. I just think the price needs to be lowered if they're cutting off 40 min.
