LA Food Tour: Exploring America’s Culinary Frontier w/ Culinary Backstreets

Overview
Nobody walks in LA? Prepare to challenge your expectations and preconceptions as we wind our way through Downtown Los Angeles on foot. The City of Angels is vast and sprawling, to be sure, a world city and global hub that boasts the busiest port in the western hemisphere and a local economy rivaled only by New York and Tokyo. Yet strolling through its dense core, where it all began hundreds of years ago alongside the LA River, Los Angeles still feels like a western outpost – forward looking, experimental, and adventuresome, especially when it comes to eating. Our food journey may seem extensive, but it’s truly only a taste of the banquet laid out for the bold, the curious, and the intrepid as they continue to explore the seemingly boundaryless City of Angels.

What a great tour, downtown LA as an vibrant food destination has many great experiences to sample - and sample we did!! As befits the multicultural nature of LA, we had bites tracing their influences and sources to many spots in the world. However, both the historical and cultural information we received during the tour eclipsed the even great food experiences. DTLA has a very interesting history, with a number of surprising twists. Our guide, Ulysses, was exceptionally well informed and so we more than just skimmed the surface. The tour location, DTLA, and our guide Ulysses, combined to make this a do not miss food tour. A bit of advice, stay in downtown (we stayed at the Omni), book a night at the LA Phil and/or catch a play to complete your visit.

Thanks very much for taking the time to share your experience and for leaving us a 5-star review, it was our pleasure to have you! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our walk with the wonderful Ulysses, he is amazing! We work with academics in the field and our own team of experienced professionals – both guides and local journalists. We are proud to know that the money spent during the culinary walk goes to support businesses that we believe in, helping to preserve the social and cultural fabric of the cities we love so dearly. Most importantly, of course, we take pride in working with people like Ulysses who are very knowledgeable about and extremely fond of the cities they live in. We hope to see you again soon in one of our cities. You can check out your Culinary Backstreets Passport on our website to see the stamps you have collected. All the best!

A really fun way to explore Downtown LA's food scene and learn about the history of the area. Ulysses was amazing! He is a wealth of knowledge not only about the neighborhoods, but also about how cultural movements and political shifts have influenced the way this amazing, diverse city has been built and evolved. Be ready to walk, smile, eat and carry a small bag for stocking up on snacks!
