Luau Kalamaku with Buffet Dinner & Show

Overview
Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The 45-minute main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

We wanted to attend a luau while on our first visit in Kauai. The Luau Kalamaku and Buffet Dinner was the first one we attended. We were picked up at our north shore resort in Princeville and driven to the event. While there we watched as they brought out the pig from the pit. There were shops and stands that we visited there and got some of the local flavor. The dinner was well organized and the food was very good. It took place in a huge tent so we did not get wet when it started to rain for a few minutes. The show was on a stage in the center of the eating area. We had a front row round table just next to the stage. This show told of the history of the island and the music, dance and fire dancer was very good. There is also a train ride there which takes you around the grounds. It was a very enjoyable evening.

We had the opportunity to attend a wonderful buffet dinner during our stay in Kauai. We were picked up by bus at our resort, allowing all adults to partake in adult drinks. It was a beautiful setting, only regret is not enough time to take a tour of the farm. However the story was incredible and the music was amazing. The participants were brilliant in their portrayal of their settlement of the islands, including incredible hula dancing, fire dancing and spectacular costumes. The buffet was great too, from the ceremonial delivery of the pork cooked in banana leaves to the dessert options. Very traditional island food that people moved quickly through as there were multiple stations to feed hundreds in a very efficient manner. Highly recommended for families and friends alike!

Anybody can have a bad day. The cook must have been off his best. The purple Hawaiian sweet potatoes were so salty you could have used them to melt ice on a road. It was so bad it burned your tongue. The rest of the food was so so. The show was very good.
