Luau Kalamaku with Buffet Dinner & Show

Overview
Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The 45-minute main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

We have been to a few luaus and this was the most theatrical. They had a very showy stage production with lighting, etc. The view was excellent and actors perfect. The fire dancers (three women and a man) were extraordinary. The costumes were beautiful. The food was acceptable and the pork and desserts were very good. Alcoholic drinks were included, which was a welcome surprise. If you want a low-key, natural show this would not be for you, but if you enjoy a staged story explaining the travel of the islanders from Tahiti to Hawaii this would be the ticket. A well-produced show and very enjoyable. (Note: We bought the train-ride option and it was lots of fun but we thought feeding the wild pigs through a wire fence, mid-ride, to be uncomfortable and potentially unsafe for the animals. We don't feed wild animals under any circumstances in California. We stayed on the train while other patrons fed the pigs.)

The venue was fun, the food was high on the good scale and the show was one of the better ones I attended. As a bit of a kama'aina after spend some years in Hawai'i, I am no stranger to Luau's and cultural shows of the land. This was a very good show, well done with good dancers, singers and effects. Well worth the investment in vacation time and funds! Highly recommend.
