Luau Kalamaku with Buffet Dinner & Show

Overview
Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The 45-minute main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

From start to finish it was a good event. The food was good, the venue was great, the show was excellent.

This was our third time attending their Luau. It is like no other we've ever seen on any of the Hawaiian Islands since the 1980s. Depicting a Polynesian history story instead of a traditional Hula show, and much more elaborate like something you'll find on a cruise ship. Somehow we didn't get to see the EMU ceremony though - maybe due to Covid restrictions. As always it was super well organized starting in the parking lot, everything around the buffet worked like a Swiss watch, food was decent, and the show was awesome. We were a tad surprised that at the Finale they picked the totally out of breath, fabulous fire dancer to portrait the Polynesian bride's husband to hold the "baby", instead one of the dancers they had featured earlier in that show. But that's the only critique I have.

This seems to be the most popular luau show on the island and because of that, there are A LOT of people attending....up to 1000 guests. The lines for cocktails are very long and they offer a very limited menu of drinks. The food was terrible...mixed vegetables floating in water, dried out fish, but the Hawaiian chicken was ok. The show itself was enjoyable, which is why I gave this 3 stars. However, if you can find a more realistic luau, on the beach, with much fewer people and better tasting, more "local" food, I think you will get a more authentic experience. This luau was very "touristy"

Mahalo for your comments. Luau Kalamaku operates at around 600 or less guests. We appreciate your feedback which we have shared with our management team.
