Overview

Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The 45-minute main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

We enjoyed the craft exhibit prior to the performance. The buffet was good. They served several hundred people in a short time. There were too many people to have an exceptional buffet experience. The luau performance was very good. The performers were very professional. It was a good location in case of rain since it was sheltered.

We did this activity as an excursion through Norwegian cruise line. The luau is held under a huge open air tent, which was a good thing because we had rain most of the evening. The buffet includes a pig roasted in a ground pit along with chicken, fish, a variety of side dishes and dessert. Service through the food line was smooth. The show starts after the meal is over. It is impressive in its delivery and format. Rather than just showing different polynesian dances, they do everything in the context of a story about a young girl. The music is inviting and dramatic at the same time and the dance includes elements hinting of Cirque Du Soleil. I highly recommend it.

I loved the show, the actors are very talented. The only issue I had was the food. I did not eat the entire day because I thought the food was going to be good... it was not good at all. Even the cakes and sweets were terrible. A little 4 year old girl was crying because her mom was making her finish her food. My entire table was pretty upset with the food.
