My friend and I decided to take a day off from work. While we're local to the NYC area, we wanted to explore Red Hook, an area of Brooklyn that wasn't well known to us. A quick search pointed to Dom's "Made in Brooklyn Tours." Dom is enthusiastic, native to Brooklyn, and a virtual fountain of knowledge! He is well-known within the community and his affiliations provided us access to the movers and shakers that are the backbone of Brooklyn's "maker" revolution - the very amazing people who produce artisanal food, beverages, products and textiles. Dom's passionate story-telling painted a great backdrop for each neighborhood we visited. Once our tour was complete, we had uncovered the hidden treasures of Red Hook's vibrant past and learned so much about the active community driving Red Hook's future. Each of these were elements of the area that a casual visitor to Red Hook would not know without the benefit of a guide like Dom. If you're in the Brooklyn area, as a tourist or even as a local, I highly recommend Made in Brooklyn Tours. Dom provides an amazing experience that will leave you appreciating the wonderful communities in Brooklyn.

First I took the DUMBO tour and then Bensonhurst. I really enjoyed both tours. While the tours are different, on both tours Dom provided lots of information about the neighborhood including its history and transition over the years. Clearly Dom brings a lot of passion to Made in Brooklyn tours--he's from Brooklyn and enjoys sharing his knowledge with visitors. The DUMBO tour really helped me understand that Brooklyn has its own history and has seen many changes over the last several hundred years. I loved learning about Brooklyn's history, its importance as a manufacturing center and meeting various artists and small business owners who are promoting 'made in Brooklyn'. Bensonhurst was a wonderful experience and helped me better understand the experience of Italians who immigrated to the US. I enjoyed the food shops, meeting the owners and sampling the delights offered at the various shops. I hope to be able to be able to experience more of Brooklyn on another of Dom's tours.

I can’t say enough good things about our Made in Brooklyn experience. In fact, our Bensonhurst tour was SO GOOD that we immediately scheduled a Williamsburg tour two days later. If you love incredible food then you must do the Bensonhurst tour. We have traveled extensively throughout the world (including Italy), and can say without question that everything we tasted was top notch. And, these aren’t just tastings, but rather massive portions including everything from pizza, to heroes, to ravioli, to cookies. Not only was the food amazing, but also the people were great too. Dom is from the local area, and his personal relationships provided us the opportunity to meet many of the actual business owners; most of which have been running the family business for several generations. Each one of them spent time telling us about their business, the food, and unique perspectives on the area. After such a great experience in Bensonhurst, we hoped to schedule another tour during our short trip and were fortunate enough that Dom had availability. The Williamsburg tour was very different from the Bensonhurst tour, but we enjoyed the change of pace. We did sample some foods, but it was very focused on the new movement taking place in Williamsburg. This was especially fun because my brother lives in Williamsburg and he was able to learn a lot about his own backyard. Lastly, we can’t say enough about Dom as a person. He’s was so informative, answered all our questions, has a great sense of humor, and was a pleasure to be around. Do yourself a favor and book a tour!
