Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

The crew was nice but we didn’t see any Manta’s!! That’s what happens with nature I guess. What a bummer! There wasn’t any available days to reschedule for another try during our stay in Hawaii either so I guess I just take a loss on the several hundreds of dollars I paid for my group. They did say we can gift the 2nd try to friends and try to get our money from them. Who would ever do that though?! At the very least they should offer 50% of the money back since we paid for an experience that didn’t happen. I wouldn’t recommend unless you don’t mind paying for something and not having a for sure experience. The idea of seeing mantas up close is great. Hopefully others who try are luckier!

Aloha and thank you for the feedback. While we see manta rays more than 90% of the time, these are wild animals and we cannot guarantee when they will appear, or for how long they will stay. As you mentioned, the crew was nice and we offered you a free trip as a result of not seeing any manta rays. This is the "manta guarantee" policy that we had in place when you booked the tour, so we're confused why we would receive a 2-star review after doing everything that was promised at the time of booking. We always recommend booking your manta ray tour early in your trip to the Big Island, in case we need to rebook you as a result of not seeing manta rays, or because a tour was cancelled due to unsafe conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. This is a very popular tour, and most tour providers are booked up for 1 week or more.

Just wonderful experience. The manta ray went up so close that we had to move not to touch it. The staffs were very nice and helpful.

Mahalo for your feedback, and we're glad you had a wonderful up-close experience with Hawaii's famous manta rays, and with the staff at Hawaii Oceanic.

It took a while for the manta to come but when it did it was amazing. I safely viewed the manta and its backflips in the water through our flotation devices. The snorkeling devices also worked helping me breathe and see clearly.

Thank you for sharing details of your experience with the manta rays. It's difficult to predict when the manta rays will appear, but it's always worth the wait!
