Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

My husband and I tried this out due to all the rave reviews on it. We did the Manta Magic. It was amazing. Before we set out on the boat the captain brought us all upstairs to discuss what we would be experiencing that night. We were advised not to touch the mantas, and he also went over how the mantas feed. It was informative and I'm very grateful they went over this, as the way the Mantas feed can be a little intimidating if you didn't know what to expect. It was a truly magical experience. You are in the water, holding onto a surfboard with lights (holding on with both hands) and you try to keep your body floating flat and as still as possible. You don't want to drop your feet down too far down into the water. Noodles are provided to help keep your feet up if you want. If I were to do it again I would take the noodle. I was so worried about making sure my feet weren't dropping down too much I could have probably enjoyed it a little more if I could just lay there. My tip though, if you're big into pictures, is to bring your own camera. A GoPro with a floaty attachment. Also, when you get in the water, be sure to ask for the noodle if you are the groups designated camera holder. As keeping your entire body parallel with the sea floor and hanging on with only one hand (as you will be using the other hand to take pictures/record video) will be difficult without the noddle help. My husband got some AMAZING footage! And good pictures of me with the Mantas! The pictures the Captain take aren't bad! but he's taking them for the entire group. Not for you and your family. Again, super great and a MUST DO!

This was incredibly fun. I did this with my 10 year old daughter during our stay in Hawaii, and it was the highlight of our trip. They allowed us to snorkel for a bit before it got dark and then set out a lighted board for us to hold onto and watch the mantas flip in front of us. Our boat captain was really nice and our guide Mica was very helpful and she watched over everyone in the water. The only thing I could say they could improve on would be nylon hand hold loops on the board, my daughter's hands were hurting during the manta show from the thin ropes on the board we held onto, and there were fairly large waves that night. I wished we could have stayed longer too!

Had a wonderful time, the staff was very friendly and shared their passion for the manta rays. We went on a night a storm was rolling in, but they still made it amazing and safe
