Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

When I came across this tour in my Hawaii research I knew we had to do it. I researched many companies and am very glad we went with Hawaiian Oceanic! First off, our captain Dusty and his co-captain (sorry- can't remember his name) were amazing! Kind, knowledgeable and fun!! It's a laid back small tour that was prob the highlight of out 15 day trip. First we had a briefing at the dock and got our gear. after a nice boat ride we had some time to snorkel. There were a number of mantas cruising around we got to watch along with some fish. Keep in mind this is not a snorkeling tour- not meant to have lots of colorful fish. You are here for mantas. As the sun started to go down, They got the light up board out that we used to hang on to as we viewed the mantas in action. This company has 1 board and only takes enough people that will fit on that one. Our co-captain did great job moving our board for the best viewing. Then they came!! The mantas are beautiful and graceful. They barrel rolled right under us- inches from us- as they fed. Over and over. I don't remember how many different ones we saw that night but there wasn't a dull moment. I do remember that at times there were 3 under us all feeding in our column of light. When the show was over and we wee back on board, the view of the island from the water was very pretty along with the setting sun. I can not say enough wonderful things about this tour and this company. Very classy, professional, fun and environmentally conscious. (Which was a big selling point for me.) Book with them- you won't be disappointed by the staff (they have no control over the mantas).

My sister and I did this on our first day. It is hard to top this, it was amazing. We arrived before sunset and he explained what to look for and the names of three of the regular Manta rays. We saw Lefty and knew which one it was by his picture and description. Since we were there first, we were the first ones to see these marvelous creatures. They come so close, that I could hear my sister shrieking with delight. We stayed long enough to see three rays up close and personal. When I looked up, there were several other boats in the area, but none had seen any yet. I think because we were there early, the plankton had time to gather in our little area and the we had first dibs on seeing the rays. The night was clear and the boat ride was very nice. If you do nothing else, DO THIS.

You've never experienced something like this. These huge creatures swimming just inches away. We felt totally safe and loved the experience. Hawaii Oceanic did a great job. Don't miss it if you visit the Big Island. Aloha
