Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

Great experience! The manta rays swim right next to you! The tour guide said that usually there are only 2-3 but we saw 8-9 different rays. Highly recommend!

We had been told by friends that going on a manta ray tour while in Hawaii was a must. We actually didn't give it a lot of further thought until we heard neighbours at our condo talking about it. That got us interested again so we booked. We went on the twilight tour which was an added bonus - the sunset was glorious just before we jumped off the boat! We realize that you can't guarantee seeing mantas but we were pretty lucky, seeing 6 that night. Close is a bit of an understatement. They must have liked us as they actually bumped into both of us! A magical experience. And those neighbours, turns out that their son was our guide! Subtle promotion! :) I'm a guide in Vancouver, I think I'm pretty good and I'm rather fussy. Hunter was just great. Caring, knowledgeable and very helpful - especially with those of us who aren't strong swimmers. Had such a great time, we booked the snorkeling tour when we got home that night!

This trip took our great vacation and made it an amazing one! By far one of the best travel experiences we have ever had. Cannot say enough good things about it. We saw mantas the entire trip, at one time there were 9 of them I think. They get close enough that they will touch you. Everybody here was super friendly and made it fun and educational. I can’t recommend this enough! Just do it! You won’t regret it!
