Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

This was straight up AMAZING. Seriously — worth every penny, do this while you’re on the Big Island, and go with Hawaii Oceanic! The whole crew, Lexy, Eric, Justin, and Caspian (and Mojo!) were all great. Super friendly and knowledgeable, and took us to the absolute best spot to view the mantas. We were so lucky and managed to see seven mantas during our trip, and they said the usual amount is 1-3! Absolutely spectacular to be in the water with them, and they come right up to you. Also, I specifically chose this tour and enjoyed it because it’s an intimate, smaller group than some others you’ll see online. Incredible, incredible, incredible — Book it!!!

Hunter, our guide, and Jeff, our boat captain, were PHENOMENAL. I was extremely nervous, and Hunter could tell. He was very reassuring, and made me (and everyone else) feel more than comfortable before we got in the water. Hunter knew so much much each manta ray that we saw, and told us how to identify it from the others! He also was extremely knowledgeable about other marine species we saw in the water. Hawaii Oceanic also offers snorkel masks with prescription lenses! I personally did not use them, but a few others in our group did. I thought that was amazing customer service on their part. For those of you reading this review to determine what to expect, I feel you! I did exactly the same thing. I was TERRIFIED to do this, but my boyfriend really wanted to. I wasn’t going to let him do it alone, so I just didn’t give myself a chance to second guess. I jumped in the water, to one of the best experiences of my life. Let me tell you, the manta rays will likely touch you, but they are COMPLETELY HARMLESS, and very gentle. The first few minutes, I was shaking I was so nervous, but I just held onto the board, and let the rays do their thing! Even if you are just tossing around the idea of doing this tour, DO IT. It is definitely something I will never forget!

this was a spectacular experience! the staff was knowledgeable and fun, we were provided wet suit tops and snorkels, had a dry spot for our towels and bags, and we saw the manta rays up and very close! the water is cold and I recommend taking a motion sickness prevention if you are prone to it. it was an amazing experience and highly recommended it for safe and upclose viewing of these gentle giants!
