Overview

You will be safely brought deep into the 10,000 Islands Wildlife Refuge for a two-hour interpretive tour of the area led by a Florida Master Naturalist. Depending on the season, you can expect to encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, rosette spoonbills, as well as, numerous species of fish and shore birds.

What To Expect

TEN THOUSAND ISLANDS NWR

Consisting of two parts, The Dolphin, Birding and Shelling Tour is a wonderful experience for the whole family and a great introduction to the area. First a dolphin tour to search for dolphins and wading birds on a naturalist-led boating tour. Then a shelling tour to explore an uninhabited barrier island. You will learn about island’s beach dynamics and collect some of the wonderful shells on these remote islands.

This tour is absolutely amazing. We saw so many dolphins and my 1 year daughter got so exited and waved to the dolphins. Birding and shelling experience is great. You can find so many kinds of shells and they are ALL beautiful!

Our tour guide, Joyce, was very knowledgeable and made sure we got the very best experience possible. She knew how to get dolphins to actually chase the boat we were in, providing a really tremendous photo op and making the tour even more fun. She knew where to go to enable us to see the wildlife in the area, a great shelling beach, and provided a wealth of knowledge in addition to answering all of our questions during the tour!
