We cruised from Whitter to Valdez as part of our Cosmos tour. We were the only ones on the boat which left plenty of room to walk and wander about. It was a beautiful day except for the very end as we were pulling into Valdez when a rain shower started but at that point it was already dark. Lots of beautiful scenery tons of glaciers, mountains and islands to view. Saw quite a bit of wildlife, though unfortunately no whales. Saw lots of otters floating in the sound. Some harbor seals, tons of sea lions, puffins and a lone bald eagle. We spent about a half hour or so close up with the Meares Glacier which was really great. Commentary was just right, when there was wildlife or something worth checking out we heard commentary but when there wasn't there was no commentary. We had an included dinner which was okay.

This was a great cruise for viewing the glacier, but the wildlife viewing left a lot to be desired. Perhaps it was just the day, but we saw one raft of sea otters, one bald eagle, a two whales diving and a few seals on the icebergs. Maybe that sounds like a lot, but after visiting Kodiak and Denali a few days earlier, and Kenai Fjords on our last trip to Alaska, this just was not that much. But, the viewing of Meares glacier was awesome, we even saw it calve twice. The captain cut the engines so we could enjoy the silence. The crew is fantastic and really made sure we were comfortable. Both the lunch and afternon soup were yummy. There were a lot of kids running around, bumping into everybody, yelling and screaming and I wish they would've told them to stop, when the parents certainly didn't (FYI, when my kids were that age, I would've never let them run wild like that). All in all a good cruise, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the wildlife viewing was just OK.

This was a very professionally run, comfortable and enjoyable cruise. Ben, the captain, did an excellent job of giving commentary during the trip, pointing out and slowing down for wildlife along the way as well as talking about the geography and glaciers. We saw lots of wildlife throughout the day - sea otters, bald eagles, sea lions, seals, puffins, orcas and porpoises. The glacier itself was very impressive, and we stopped about a 1/4 mile from it, where Ben turned off the engines so we could listen to the glacier, which was much noisier than I expected. The catamaran was modern and clean with big windows, and the ride was very smooth. Not a hint of seasickness, which I'm prone to. Overall a great day!
