It is a must to see when visiting Key West. Displays show very impressive artifacts. It is a great place to learn about shipwrecks, pirates, and divers who discovered all these treasures. There is a second floor, which is kind of hidden. I really enjoyed this place except for a woman who works there. She watches everyone like a hawk, which makes you feel uncomfortable. Another visitor and myself were instructed by her to move our face masks higher. They were covering our noses, so I don't know how much higher they could go?! Her true calling is to be a Catholic nun, not a museum worker.

The story of Mel Fisher and his search for the wreck of the treasure ship Atocha that went down in a storm off the Keys in 1622 is absolutely fascinating. I think the Museum could have shown more of the items that were found on the ship and more of the story, so to learn more you will have to read some of the books that were written about him and the Atocha. Such an interesting part of the story of Key West and its people.
