This was amazingly wonderful museum. So much to see and read. Make sure you give yourselves time. I think all museums should have information at each item. That is what I enjoy the history

For all the fabulous achievements of Mel Fisher, this museum really underwhelmed me. I also have to wonder if the Fisher family really approves of the wokery going on in the gift shop. My husband really wanted to see this museum so we both paid our $18 and went in. It has a nice display of treasure and artifacts found from the Atocha and also an explanation of how they had to work to find the shipwreck. But largely missing is information on how they got the treasure up and the process of cataloging and restoring the treasure. I didn't even have an electrolysis tank to show people how they get the hard crust of years at sea off treasure. I guess there's an even more expensive tour for that? There's a museum upstairs that had some Key West history, information on the Cuban missile crisis and information on the slave trade. While it was interesting it would have been better off in the museum across the street. I would have liked to have seen more about Mel Fisher's treasure hunting experiences. Also, in the gift shop they have the 1619 Project book prominently displayed. This books puts forth false claims about history and has no place in a museum. I guess the people who run the organization are woke. But I have to wonder if the Fisher family, a family that fought the government for years to keep their treasure, is quite as woke? Go to see the real treasure raised from the Atocha because there is some of it there, but know that the rest of the museum really isn't very cohesive and is a bit boring to look at. And beware that there may be some far left false indoctrination going on in the building.
