I have recently returned from a tour of Alaska, the most stunningly beautiful place on earth! The highlight of this tour, and the part I was most looking forward to, was Kayaking by the Mendenhall Glacier. I would like to pay my particular thanks to Gabe, who was our guide for this trip. Gabe was extremely knowledgable and shared his knowledge and anecdotes as we kayaked towards the Mendenhall glacier. We were being watched by seals, who popped up all around us, and had close encounters with bald eagles. I had never kayaked before, but Gabe was a very good teacher, he was also very kind and polite. I don't think that I ended the day as an expert kayaker, but I certainly now feel at home in a kayak and would love to do it again. Perhaps, who knows, when I return to Alaska in the near future.

This was a highlight of our cruise. It was an unexpected foggy and rainy day, but our guide, Alex, didn’t miss a beat. He told us what to expect, went over all the safety info then had a great time going down the rapids. Between sharing the history, urban legends and economics, Alex was personable and encouraged interaction amongst the shipmates. Absolutely will return and ask for Alex!

Definitely more of a family adventure. For folks who have rafted on a river, this 'rafting tour' may be a bit slow and boring and more of a 'floating' trip. The reason it's a 3.5 hour tour, it's sllooowww. . Saw the glacier at a distance in the lake, then slowly moved toward the 'rapids', about a level 1-2 for 10 minutes, the rest of the time, it was floating. Then, towards the end, for about 20 minutes you float past residential houses, waved at lady working on her flowers. After returning the boots and waterproof pants and life vest, there was supposed to be a special snack of salmon with crackers, etc. There wasn't any food left. Wasn't worth the cost of $100 plus.

Sorry, it was a disappointment. We do bill it as a float trip, not whitewater. And with the drought we are in, the river is moving slow. There should have been snacks for you at the take out. Thank you for pointing this out so I can address it with the team.
