Overview

Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

What To Expect

Liquid Alaska Tours

Liquid Alaska Tours pick up guests at the cruise ship docks and their experience starts right there. This is a 4 hour all inclusive tour, including 2 hours paddling around the Mendenhall Lake to see the Mendenhall Glacier and experience the wild of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.

Mendenhall Glacier

Guests will get up close and personal with the Mendenhall Glacier as they canoe up to the face of the glacier and experience it from a canoe on Mendenhall Lake.

Tongass National Forest

Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

We are a family of 4 (2 young adult children) who took the canoeing tour and had a good time. Our guide Ryan was great: professional, informative about wildlife and geography, and entertaining. Plus he was very accommodating of our different abilities. All gear was provided, and tour was on time as advertised. I would highly recommend this tour.

Our guide was Abby, and she was fun and personable. My daughter and I had a great time. The exercise was good but manageable; Abby gave us plenty of breaks. The scenery was amazing and we were able to work through “Alaskan weather,” some rain and a bit of cold. We got pretty close to the glacier!

My husband, 17 year old son and I set out to take the Lake Mendenhall canoe trip. We had no trouble finding Ryan. He immediately put us at ease. On the drive, he gave us lots of info about the area. He got us all dressed and gave a detailed safety talk. Very impressed that he is water rescue certified as well as wilderness rescue certified. We set out. He spoke throughout giving us facts that most did not know. He was so upbeat and funny. We were so at ease and enjoyed the trip so much. We got back. He gathered everything and made us his famous Mendenhall mocha!! This tour was perfect. Ryan was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and funny!! Great operation. We will be back next time to Alaska.
