Overview

Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

What To Expect

Liquid Alaska Tours

Liquid Alaska Tours pick up guests at the cruise ship docks and their experience starts right there. This is a 4 hour all inclusive tour, including 2 hours paddling around the Mendenhall Lake to see the Mendenhall Glacier and experience the wild of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.

Mendenhall Glacier

Guests will get up close and personal with the Mendenhall Glacier as they canoe up to the face of the glacier and experience it from a canoe on Mendenhall Lake.

Tongass National Forest

Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

Great experience and views. We took a canoo tour and got to walk on the Mendenhall Glacier. Kevin and Paul are awesome and funny young guides!

We absolutely loved this tour with Mike! The views were spectacular as we got closer to the glacier snd waterfall. We all appreciated Miles’s sense of humor as we passed “Matthew McConaughey’s house “ and though-out the tour. But more importantly Mikes knowledge and professionalism was on point ! He gave us a safety briefing prior to the tour as we “suited up”. He provided a light snack bag which many appreciated and finished up with hot chocolate when we got back ! Looking forward to another trip!! A definite must do for visitors !!

It was a last minute decision for me and I’m so grateful that I made it. Kelsie met us under the tramway, loaded us up and drove us through town to the lake. She was lovely and entertaining filling us in on everything from the local surroundings and culture to teaching us how to interpret Wisconsin accents. When we were arrived at the lake we were greeted by Paul and the two of them helped us gear up quickly and get on the water. Paul did a great job explaining our surroundings as we rode across and sprinkled in several ridiculous jokes that made the time fly. The scenery was spectacular and the trip was definitely one of the highlights of my cruise. I would highly recommend liquid Alaska tours based on my experience.
