Overview

Castle Valley is the poster child for Western landscapes, and you’ve probably already seen it somewhere in a John Wayne movie, TV show, or a commercial or two. And if somehow you have, in fact, never laid eyes on Castle Valley before, you’re not going forget it once you do!

This serene section of the Colorado River moseys through a big beautiful valley lined with monuments. Along the way are some of Utah’s most impressive geologic features like Fisher Towers, Castleton Tower, the Priest and Nuns, and more.

As for the waters here along the Colorado River, it stays pretty warm from late spring to early fall. You’ll spend most of your time floating, with a few Class II rapids to cool you off along the way. Expect plenty of fascinating interpretations and fun stories from your river guide on this mild trip!

My two kids and I have never been rafting before, but gave a morning rafting trip a try on our last day in Moab. My 9 year old was extremely nervous. Our guide, Gavin, was awesome. We did just enough to make it fun, but not overwhelming for the kids. We all loved helping to paddle the boat, getting stuck on a rock and spinning around, and taking on some waves that cooled us off. A highlight for both of them was jumping off the boat and swimming in the Colorado river! Gavin was knowledgeable about the surrounding environment, and gave cool facts that both my kids talked about to everyone they saw afterwards. If we ever make it back to Moab, this will be at the top of our list!

This past Thursday we did the AM half day rafting trip, and our guide was Sam B ("girl Sam :0)). I was a little nervous about rafting with a my girls, one who is an adventure junkie, and the other who is soft and squishy and is afraid of everything. It was a very family friendly float, with a few gentle rapids, and plenty of time to swim in the Colorado River. Sam was extremely knowledgeable about the area and the niche geology. Very highly recommend, wouldn't mind someday doing more of the aggressive tours myself!

We had an amazing morning rafting and swimming on the CO River! We had beautiful views and a great tour guide Sam (“Girl Sam”). She was very knowledgeable of the river and the area. A must-do activity in Moab!! Would definitely go again when we come back 🤗
