It was a treat to see these spectacular formations that I had only seen previously in the movies. Our guide Toney gave us a great background on the culture and history of the land and even sang songs while playing a drum for us. Really enjoyed this trip! I do recommend dressing in layers as it might be hot out, but in an open air vehicle it can get chilly while you're moving. Also sunglasses and maybe even something to cover your nose and mouth as the trucks do kick up a lot of dust.

Our guide was Norma and she was informative, engaged and passionate about her job. She was great with answering questions and educating us on the history and geology of the Valley. She also provided us with lots of information on the Navajo culture. It was very hot the day we took the tour but she provided water and we hardly noticed the extreme heat due to the engaging experience. The tour also included a stop at a Hogan and demonstration of yarn making. We even got to see several petrogylphs. A few tips. You meet the tour guide in the lobby of the hotel on benches on the opposite side of the reception desk - near a large esquestrian statue. The tour is in an open truck, so be prepared for the elements and there will be dust. Dust is going to get everywhere. You will need a shower after. Sunglasses are highly recommended, especially if you wear contacts to keep the dust out of your eyes. Be prepared to climb in and out a lot. There are places to buy Navajo items but we did not feel pressured to do so.

What a privilege it was to be taking around Monument Valley and into the pristine back country with a Navajo native! Our guide, Bobby was terrific. We learned so much about the sacred land and the Navajo culture. He was patient, allowing us time for photos and exploration. He also performed for us, playing some beautiful tunes on his flute, including an original song. We were shown all the highlights and even areas that tourists are not allowed into without a Navajo guide. I highly recommend this beautiful and educational tour.
