Mush Your Own Sled Dog Team (Summer/Fall Tour)

Overview
This is the only place in Alaska where you can mush your own team of dogs in the summer!

This is not a just a tour kennel; it is the training grounds and homestead of 4-time Iditarod champion, Dallas Seavey. All the dogs are either retired racing dogs (many have won the Iditarod), are currently on the race team, or are the next generation in training to become the next great champions! Our dogs are active and training year-round. As a guest musher here, you become part of Dallas Seavey Racing's year-round training program.

The group size for this experience is usually 6 or less people, with a guide assigned to each group, creating a very personal experience.

All of our dogs are extremely friendly, and love attention. Cuddle puppies, romp with young dogs, or walk with champions.

If you're a dog lover then you will love this place! All the dogs were super friendly when we approached them & I could see the love in their eyes. We learned a lot about dog mushing 101 & the staff was very willing to talk about how they train the dogs for upcoming races like the ididarod. We spent about an hour actually dry-land mushing (I'll say "bike") & it was so amazing! I was initially just excited to be the passenger but when they said we could be the musher I was like - heck yes! Would definitely go back again in the winter time to do winter dog sledding in the snow but early September was awesome too! Just bring rain or hiking boots for going through some potential puddles.

What a wild ā€˜n crazy, fun time we had mushing the dog ā€˜sledā€™ in the summer! Both my husband and I got to drive the team of 4 dogs through the course that had been carved out for training for the Alaskan Iditarod! It was sooooo much fun, and Iā€™m so glad we did it! The dogs were awesome and loved pulling us through the course! Jesse picked us up in Talkeetna and took us back to the 100-acre ranch. He was very informative about how the dogs are cared for and how an Iditarod works...amazing! After we ā€˜racedā€™ the sleds, we got to meet the dogs...champions & future champions! We played with 10-week-old pups, which was the icing on the cake! We were there in July, and Alaska was having a heatwave, so it was a bit warm. That said, the only thing I would recommend is wear shoes you donā€™t mind getting wet or muddy. For the dogsā€™ comfort, the course had some water (not deep) in places for them to run through. We canā€™t wait to go back to Alaska, and will definitely put AK Sled Dog Tours on our itinerary, again! We are still talking about our dog-sledding adventure!

A very nice chance to understand/experience what dog sledding really is, even you come to Alaska in the summer. You and your partner can switch the driver and passenger positions for the departure and return routes. it's really funny to be drag by a team of cute dogs: you can feel they really love running. The tour also introduces the former-champ dogs, their cute puppies (you are free to feed and pet them), and the race training machine. I have to give the tour 5 stars with no doubt.
