Na Pali Snorkel Adventure

Overview
Are you looking for a Napali Coast sightseeing and snorkeling adventure departing from Hanalei Bay? Look no further! We’re the only company on Kauai permitted to operate raft boat tours from Kauai’s iconic north shore and we’d be stoked to take you out on a wet and wild ocean excursion. Within minutes of departing, we’ll be into the heart and soul of the sacred, historical, and stunning Napali Coast, keeping our eyes peeled for Hawaiian spinner dolphins, turtles, and sea birds. With forward-facing seating, bathrooms, and a fresh-water shower, our vessels offer more creature comfort than many other raft-style boats. We’ll learn about the coast, swim, snorkel, relax, eat sandwiches, and just generally bask in the glory of the Napali Coast. Join us on this convenient four-hour ocean excursion that wastes no time and packs maximum action into every moment.

What To Expect
1
Holo Holo Charters
Tour Kauai’s Na Pali Coast aboard a High Speed Raft. The adventure begins when you leave from the shore of scenic Hanalei Bay and we shuttle you by dinghy to your rigid hull inflatable raft which is anchored just offshore. There, you’ll do a “dry-transfer”, stow your gear, grab a seat and get ready for the experience of a lifetime.
2
Hanalei Bay
Minutes after leaving the bay, the spectacular Na Pali Coast comes into view and you see why its dramatic cliffs and beaches have enchanted painters, authors and travelers for centuries… and we’re just getting started!
3
Na Pali Coast
As we travel down the coast, your crew and Captain entertain your imagination with stories of the Hawaiians who once made this coast their home. From sea-level you really get a feel for the tremendous scale of Na Pali. Keep an eye out for dolphins, turtles and seabirds which are often seen on our tours. Depending on the ocean conditions the day of your raft tour, we’ll stop and snorkel at one of several protected and shallow areas which will be teeming with tropical fish. Fins, goggles (with corrective lenses if you need them), snorkels, and flotation aids are all provided. If you’re new to snorkeling, our crew will be on-hand to provide instruction and pointers so you can get the most from your adventure. After you have a chance to snorkel and relax on the Na Pali Coast, we’ll serve a tasty sandwich lunch before we head back up the coast to Hanalei Bay. Expect to get wet and bring a lightweight jacket.

This is our 6 th trip to a Hawaiian island and our fourth trip to Kauai. We have been on many boat/sail snorkel trips. This was our fourth trip to see the Na Pali coast. Our first trip was on a fast and rough pontoon boat, the second was a helicopter tour of the island, the third a Holo Charters Sunset Cruise of the Na Pali Coast on a large catamoran and this trip leaving from Hanalei on a 40 ft boat with comfortable seating If you are expecting a great snorkling adventure this is not the trip for you. The star of this show is the Na Pali Coast. The trip leaves from Hanalei which was a 10 minute drive from our condo in Princeville. It cost more leaving from Hanalei, but avoiding the drive around the entire island leaving very earliy in the morning was appreciated. We had captain Aaron and Claudia as his crew member. They were friendly, talkative and made everyone feel welcome throughout the day. The boat used for this trip is about 4o ft in length with bench style cushioned seating which provided a great platform for viewing the scenary and a much smoother and more comfortable ride than taking the smaller pontoon style boats. The smaller ponton boats are great, a little less expensive, and can be fun if you enjoy a high speed, wind in your hair, hang onto the rope else fly out of the boat kind of ride. When my kids were young they loved the pontoon style boat ride. At this point we were happy to have a much smoother ride with an opportunity to take pictures on the way out catching the early sun and shadows of the highly contoured landscape of the Na Pali coast. This scenary is spectacular and we will see it every time we come to the island. If you have never toured the Na Pali coast from the water, it is a MUST SEE and this trip is a good way to do it. Captain Aaron was very informative about the landscape and the many sea caves that exist along this stretch of coastal lava. In the first part of the trip you stay close to coastline getting a great feel for the shear elevation of the pallisading mountainscape and the beautiful beaches tucked here and there some of which are completely inaccesible by any route other than water. There are many sea caves and a few that Captain Aaron was able to pull the entire boat into providing an amazing appreciation and view of the sea caves. This is something that is limited to smaller craft and is a real treat enjoyed by young and old. If you take the morning tour there is a good chance you will come along large pods of spinner dolphins that are friendly and inquisitive and will swim right up to and around the boat. In all of our trips made in the morning tours we have seen 50 or more dolphins. If you have never seen a dolphin in its natural environment this is worth the cost of the tour alone. If you are lucky you may get a few more active dolphins who will demonstrate their namesake by jumping out of the water in a tight spiral leaving a memory you will never forget. Ultimately the boat will reach a quiet bay where you are allowed about an hour for an opportunity to snorkel and eat lunch. The snorkeling would impress the first time person and is good for kids as the fish will actually surround the boat and swim within a few feet of your mask. The water is fairly deep, but very safe and calm. There is little if any reef system and there were very few fish once you were more than 20 feet from the boat. On our trip we were lucky to see a few sea turtles on our way down the coast and one was even nice enough to show up at our snorkeling locatioin and shared some time with us. If you have never been in the water next to a sea turtle it is one of the most exciting and calming experiences you can have in the water. They are graceful and surpisingly comfortable with you if you remain calm and slow. A majestic experience to say the least. If you are a moderately experienced at snorkeling, you will find the snorkeling experience on this trip is no where near as good as just about any beach on the island. This is not a snorkeling adventure but really is intended as a great tour of the Na Pali coast with the opportunity to see wildlife in the water and a chance to get wet just before eating lunch. If you are looking for a snorkeling adventure our best experiences have been in Maui and the Big Island. The trip back is generally a little further from the coast depending upon the size of sea swells which can provide a different perspective of the Na Pali seen from a little distance. All in all a great trip with a variety of scenary. This is a must do if this is your first trip to Kauai. Holo Charters does a nice job with their staff and tours of the island and this size boat would work well for all ages provided you are mobile enough to take a big step onto the boat. If you are prone to sea sickness this size craft will insulate you from some but not all of the undulations of the ocean.

This tour was the highlight of our 7 day vacation with 12 family members. Drew and Claudia made us felt so welcome, and entertained us greatly, but they are not the creators of the unbelievable Napali Coast. The scenery, the history, the views, the wildlife.... are just out of this world. Do not hesitate to book this tour, as there is no other way to see the Napali coast! The snorkeling was fantastic, but it is only 30-40 minutes of the tour, so if you have family members who don't want to snorkel, insist they come along to see the Napali coast!!! The views, the caves, the dolphins, the turtles, the monk seal, the stories... nothing can compare.
