The Johnson space center was the reason that we came to this side of Houston. My wife has always been intrigued by space flight and this place wow’ed us completely. We started on the bus-ride around the campus. This includes a number of exhibits, amongst which the control room of the moonlanding stands out. The guide to the exhibit spoke with such authority, that you I could see the hustle and bustle going on in my mind’s eye. The other exhibits were absolutely amazing as well. From walking on a replica of the space shuttle (on its real 747 carrier), to historic Apollo and Gemini exhibits to an exposition on future travel to Mars. This will keep you occupied for at least 4 hours without noticing the passing of time. One tip: it was icy cold in there. Take a sweater with you if you want to avoid freezing.

I only had a couple of days in Houston, and although this was not quite what I had expected this did make for a nice day out to see some of Houston. There were two separate trips running alongside each other this one and one other on the day I booked for, we all took the tour of the city together before being taken to the locations for the remainder of the tours. The tour of the city was good and it was nice to see different areas of the city and hear some of the history. We also had the opportunity to get off the bus a few times to take some pictures at some of the landmarks around the city. As for the space station, I had expected that to be a guided tour however this was not the case. Despite that though I was definitely worth going to see and there was plenty of time to get round to see everything (we had just over 4 hours) and do one of the tram tours to see some of the grounds of the space station and the Saturn rocket. This was a perfect way to get to know the city a bit more and see one of the major attractions in Houston.

Who isn't fascinated with space travel huh? I had 3 hours to spend on the facility and believe me, it wasn't enough..As you enter, you will be split between two choices as in what you want to see...Many recommended taking the tram which takes you to the training facility but i took the one which takes us to mission control. The trip to mission control takes you to the mission control center, the ground control for the space shuttle. You will have to climb some stairs and then get a briefing on the mission control center. In my opinion, not much too see. 15 minutes later, we are taken to a field where a working space shuttle (I think) is stored. Here is where all the picture taking happens :-P...Don't forget to explore the main building too since there is also more to be seen there, especially for the young ones.
