Great experience! Sit on the starboard side, not the port side, for best views/photo ops! Sunset over Statue of Liberty on way out and then NYC skyline/lights on way in

First the positive…if you love New York, then this is seeing the city in all its glory…sunset and then at night. Glorious pics galore. But I found the cruise itself, what effort was put in, pretty underwhelming. The crew just sail the boat, don’t actually say anything apart from asking you to move if you’re in the way or asking if you want the drink. For the price paid, I’d expect a bit more. Despite being advertised as a two-hour cruise, it was actually only 90 minutes. It didn’t help that an obnoxious family sat next to me and had a bad dose of verbal diarrhoea. It took away from the beauty at times. I’d still recommend it, but it’s because of New York, not because what’s provided by the crew is anything extraordinary.

Thank you for your feedback. We try to invite questions and engagement in our welcome & safety speech. If there is a next time, we will be happy to assist and encourage you to move about the boat freely. We only ask you to sit while entering and leaving the Marina. You are correct that our cruises do not provide a narration or running commentary —Most of our guests are NYC locals & repeat customers, and since we operate by sail power whenever possible, we try not to interfere w a guest’s personal and sensory enjoyment and natural beauty of the being aboard an historic yacht in the most famous and iconic harbor in the world.

I have sailed on the Shearwater several times and it is always a delightful and memorable experience. It is my go-to for special celebrations and a great way to show off the beauty of NYC at sunset to a friend or loved one.
