What To Expect

The Breakers

Tour includes Admission to ONE of the following Newport Mansions: The Breakers, The Marble House, or Rosecliff. The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. *As of January 3, 2022 all Preservation Society of Newport Mansions are requiring proof of vaccines for all children aged 5 and up. As of January 15, 2022 all adults must also show proof of their Booster Vaccines. This policy is No Exceptions!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very personable. The problem was that we could only decipher about half of what he said. The speaker system was not only not loud enough, but also lacked clarity. Everything was somewhat muffled. It was very frustrating knowing (by the few words we could understand) that we were missing much of the information. Also leaning against wooden seat backs for 1 1/2 hours was very uncomfortable. I would not recommend this tour.

Our guide Larry (I hope that was his name) provided a great deal of information in a very professional way. He also gave us specific info regarding drop off for mansion and when to return. The photo opps were lovely. Worth doing when you get to Newport. Helped us with our own touring the following days.

It was our first trip to Newport and this four hour tour of the city was excellent. Not only did we get a knowledgeable driver who gave us lots of information about the history of Newport, but we got to visit Marble House and the Breakers. How exciting it was to imagine life back in the Gilded Age!
