We used this service during our recent trip to New York. It wasn't bad, but very difficult to get seated in the top section for viewing the sights. Wait times were not bad if you decided to sit in the bottom where you really couldn't see anything. Our biggest complaint was about certain lyrics played while waiting for the automatic recording to describe the sights. We know they picked songs about New York, but the rapper song was inappropriate for children and teens. The boat ride for us was not that bad and we were able to sit in the upper deck section, so viewing was good. The biggest drawback was the attempt by the tour guide to solicit tips during her oratory.

They say busses run every 10 min. ITS A LIE. If you don’t catch the bus from 42nd st. & Times Square you are never going to get a seat. Drivers and staff are fine. The management is crap. You get what you pay for. It was cheaper than the others to buy online but it was really really bad. We were scared to do hop on hop off because we thought looking at other passengers who had been waiting that we would never get a seat.

On July 29th, we were looking for a boat ride to the Statue of Liberty when we were set upon by employees of the “Top View” bus company. They said there was a four hour wait to get tickets to the statue but they could get us on a luxury boat that went right up to the Statue with no wait. They could get us on the 11 AM boat, so we fell for it. After buying the tickets, we had to walk two blocks to “get the bus” to the boat. When we got to the bus, the employee there said there was no way we could make the 11 AM boat. We would have to wait for the 1 PM boat. So, we had to stand around and waste two hours of our one day in NYC, all because “Top View” lied to us. When we got to the boat at 12:40 PM, we had to stand in line for an hour. We didn’t even get on the 1 PM boat. We had to watch our boat leave, watch another boat arrive, unload, and then be herded onto the boat along with about 1000 other people. Yes, I said 1000! The boat had three levels, and we had to load onto the middle deck. It was a very hot day. The middle deck had no windows, no ventilation, no life jackets to be seen, and one of the emergency exits was padlocked shut. The whole thing was a disaster waiting to happen. This was the Top View “luxury” boat ride.
