We are a family of 5 and this was our first visit to NYC. We bought 72 hour bus passes believing we could ‘hop on and hop off’. This wasn’t really the case as it was extremely difficult to ever get on a bus as they were continually full. Every bus stop after 4pm was crowded. In some instances, waiting passengers almost came to blows as some people seemed to have no concept of what a ‘queue’ is. The poor bus drivers had no way of discerning who had arrived at the bus stop first and were understandably reluctant to start lobbing queue jumpers off! By day 3 we gave up and used the subway. I wish we had done this at the start as we wasted hours waiting on buses. I suggest it would be a good idea for you to have an employee at every bus stop to monitor the people waiting and let controllers know if extra buses will be needed. It would also stop the bad manners (and bad language) displayed by your increasingly frustrated passengers.

I bought a three day sightseeing tour, which was a very good decision.All over NY we looked at this. Everywhere we landed what we had to watch out for, and then we went back to our cabin with the bus. Otherwise I would choose this. Unfortunately, not every driver is driving well.

We only had a day in NYC - disappointed with the tour. The first bus we rode was on the uptown route - the commentary kept glitching - repeated the same information over & over again. The night-time tour over the Brooklyn Bridge was better - although the bus driver had an annoying habit of bouncing on the breaks which made the trip less than enjoyable. On the plus side, the bus wasn't very full (but maybe there's a reason for that!).
