I did the Orcas Cove trip and had a fantastic time. The time spent in the kayaks was amazing, we saw a Humpback whale, seals and eagles the day I went. Don't worry if you haven't kayaked before, it is easy to get the hang of, you'll be paddling like a pro in no time. This really is worth doing if you have the time while in Ketchikan.

We chose not to book with the cruise line because we didn't want the large group experience. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, we booked. It was fantastic. Our group consisted of my husband and myself and another couple with their college age daughter. We were picked up promptly (and I mean promptly) on the dock and transported to their office where we stowed our belongings and got into the rain gear and life preservers. Do not over dress. The rain gear and preservers really keep you warm. We had partly sunny skies with a temp of about 56 degrees. I wore just a Nike Dri-fit long sleeve knit shirt (the kind that wicks). I had a fleece and jacket on that I had to strip off after we started kayaking (I should have listened to the woman who outfitted us). We had a scenic boat ride to an outlying island where a bigger boat was moored. We met our guide Rob (don't call him Bob or he will call you cheeky) who was fantastic. He was patient and calm and talked everyone through getting on the kayak and the rules to follow. He was very knowledgeable and gave us an excellent guided tour of the area. It was gorgeous. We had a good two hours plus of exploring Orcas Cove. We returned to the boat and had a delicious snack of smoked salmon. Greg and Gill took us back to the office, and on the way we saw a whale, so they stopped the boat. They were extremely nice and friendly. They dropped us off right at the cruise ship, and on time. You can't go wrong booking with them. They are excellent.

Thank you for coming to see one of our favorite parts of Alaska and for taking the time to post a review. We love what we do and get to meet so many wonderful people - you all make our jobs way too fun.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience with Southeast Sea Kayaks. Neither of us had kayaked before, but we wanted to get away from the cruise ship crowds and have an opportunity to see some nature and maybe wildlife. Greg, the owner, took us and 2 other couples with James, our guide, out to the cove where we were given instructions on basic kayaking. We had already been fully coated with raincoats, rainpants, drybags for cameras and life vests before departing. We were helped into our 2 man kayaks and after all 3 kayaks were loaded set out for a leisurely trip. Less than 5 minutes into the trip, a pod of Orcas appeared and lucky for us, decided to swim to us. We were treated to several of these creatures swimming within 25 yards of our kayaks. We chased them around for a while and eventually went to see a Bald Eagle nest, some starfish, and other sea critters. It rained, (shocking in an area of 13 feet of rain per year), but we stayed relatively dry. After the trip (about 3 hours of paddling), we were fed a nice little salmon snack with crackers, cheese, hot cocoa and Greg returned to take us back to the harbor. A very professional outfit and one that anyone could enjoy. One of the couples who shared the trip with us, was a son and his 70 year old mother. They cruised through it with no problems.
