This was our first time whale watching and we found it to be so very exciting from the beginning to end. We were able to see five different whales from the local "L" resident Pod, which had returned just the night before. With Cpt. Paul's expertise he found them easily and we learned so much about whales from our Naturalist on board, Dayna. Her love of the mammals was so evident. We also enjoyed the chance to see the Steller Sea Lions too! This tour was the highlight of our stay on Orcas Island.

There were 7 of us, 2 had never kayaked before, and we all had a FANTASTIC TIME! It consisted of our 'extended ' family-Grown up! Paul and Katie P. were awesome guides. Helpful to those unknowable about kayaking. They were great guides, pointing out interest sites, seals, eagles and whatever else we came upon on our adventure. Outer Islands is a wonderful business and I definitely recommend them for Kayaking or Whale Watching..(we saw humpbacks and Orcas!!)

We did this two years ago. You take the power boat some distance out to where the orcas tend to be. We haven't forgotten how wonderful it was when they turned off the noisy motor and let us just watch the many orcas, for whom this is their habitat. Such beautiful animals! The trip leaders often know the names of the pods and of individual whales. Our leader (forgot his name now) told me about going out once and seeing a pregnant female submerge for a long time and then come out with her new-born to the surface. Amazing story. I don't understand these negative reviews. Whale watching is totally dependent on the whales being around of course--you take your chances. It's great to go out with young people who actually study the whales. We went in summer. of 2015 in the middle of a lazy week on Lopez Island, in the afternoon. These trip leaders are completely familiar with the habits of this community of orcas, which is protected. We found it fun and interesting.
