Original La Jolla Sea Cave Kayak Tour for Two

Overview
The Original Sea Cave Kayak Tour (90 Minutes in Length) offers unforgettable guided tours through the La Jolla Ecological Reserve. Each tour is lead by experienced guide(s) who ensure participants safely navigate through the unique ecological habitats while seeing different types of marine life.

This highly-protected and unique area boasts one of the highest concentrations of sea-life in the West Coast. Guests commonly encounter seals, sea lions, and a multitude of birds and fish, and lucky guests might even see dolphins or whales!

Towards the southern end of the Ecological Reserve, La Jolla's Seven Sea Caves patiently await, allowing participants to witness their beauty. Weather permitting, participants can kayak through the large sea cave that goes from the ocean into the Emerald Cove.
Entry into the Emerald Cave depends on the safety, and is not guaranteed. Participants must be five years or older to participate in the tour.

Iā€™ve lived in San Diego for many years and never had kayaked in the ocean. Decided that it was now or never. This is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. The waves were too big to go into the caves, but getting a chance to experience nature on the open waters was a must do. We paddled around, our guides explained about the locales we passed through. I think I will try this again in June when the weather and water is warmer and there is a better chance to go into the caves. My advice is to plan on getting very wet. In colder months get the wetsuit they offer. And wear water shoes or flip flops.

We went on the 1000 tour on a sunny Sunday morning. Abby and Cody were our guides who were fantastic providing just the right amount of safety briefing, San Diego history, and ecological awareness throughout the excursion to be fun, inspiring and relaxing. It was 90 minutes and 3 miles of good exercise, learning, exploring and ocean wildlife discovery. On the way back to shore Abby and Cody explained that a "bait ball" formed behind us as the pelicans and other shorebirds were diving into the water for a "morning snack". The bait ball apparently migrated underneath us as it headed north. There were lots of pelicans diving around us into the water close enough to be exciting, but not so close that we were worried for our safety from a bird with a broken internal compass or bad vision. It was an experience we'll all remember for a long time

Initially my boyfriend wasnā€™t too thrilled about this adventure as heā€™d never kayaked, let alone in an ocean! Needless to say, Josh and Tiffany were able to put all of his worries to rest and we both had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves! We ran into some car issues on the day of our adventure (flat tire) and EVERYDAY CA was absolutely amazing about it and allowed us to reschedule without any fuss! Some tips for future visitors: Show up on time! When they say get there a half hour early, itā€™s for good reason - waivers to sign, gear options to decide and youā€™ll want to take into consideration everything that you bring with as it (and you) will get wet - they provide lockers for a small fee but they arenā€™t giant so we struggled to fit all of our stuff in there having brought along a backpack with waters, towels, shoes, etc. Also, if you can bring your phone along for photos - all the better! Bring a waterproof case or ziplock bag to keep it dry - otherwise they have waterproof accessories at the shop BUT youā€™ll pay for the convenience of purchasing it at the shop versus elsewhere in advance!
