I thought that a bus tour of Philadelphia was the best way to see something of the city so I rocked up at 11am for a tour at the start point and bought my tickets (exact money if paying in cash folks) rather than pre-booking them.
It was a nice day so I ventured to sit on the upper deck out in the sun. Until it disappeared behind the clouds which is when it got a bit nippy. We left promptly, the bus being 1/3 full at the start of the tour.
The guide did a sterling job, pointing out the sights of the city, coloured with stories both past and present. As a Brit, I wasn't left head-scratching by subtle in-jokes on local history I've had from other tour operators. It was a struggle to hear at a couple of points on the way because of the noise of the traffic. I didn't elect to put my earphones in the jack, I thought I'd persevere.
I didn't get off the bus at any point on the journey, did the whole tour from end to end. Time in Philadelphia was limited, as much as I wanted to visit some of the museums/galleries. Besides, there's always a second visit to sweep up some of these other attractions.
There were lots of opportunities to take photos on the tour - sit on the right hand side of the bus for the best opportunities. If you're planning to do the whole tour at once, bring a drink, particularly if the weather is warm.

Hello ljofa,
Thank you for choosing Big Bus Philadelphia and for your detailed review. I am pleased you enjoyed your tour experience, and in particular, your guide. Our hop on/hop off tour is a great way to familiarize yourself as a first time visitor to the city. Riding once around is an excellent option if short on time.
