Premier Juneau Whale Watching Expedition

Overview
Your 3 hour whale watching adventure begins when you board a coach bus that departs downtown Juneau from the Mt. Roberts Tram parking lot. A 25 minute journey through the picturesque landscape of Southeast Alaska will take you to Auke Bay Harbor. “All aboard!” and you’re off for Alaska waters and the ultimate whale watching experience. The star of the tour is the humpback whale, but we are always looking out for sea lions, bald eagles, or the playful orca. The whales are here to feed in our abundant Alaskan waters.  Our naturalist guides you on a 2 hour whale watching tour. With our experienced captains and Juneau being one of the best ports for whale watching in Alaska, this tour will be an unforgettable experience. A light snack and refreshments will be provided.

We booked the whale watching tour through Viator as part of our recent Alaskan cruise itinerary. We were a family of 4 travelling with an 11 year old and a seven year old. The trip was excellent. Finding the start point once off the ship was easy and Ashley was excellent on the short transfer to the tour start. Once on board our guide Sarah was excellent and Captain Tom was great at the helm of the North Star. The trip was amazing. We were fortunate to see Orca’s, humpbacks and sea lions as part of the tour and would highly recommend it for anyone considering a similar trip!

A great experience all around. We arrived on the Norwegian Jewel and took the free shuttle downtown. We met out guide at the base of the tram and boarded a bus for a 20 minute ride to the boat. The boat was comfortable and Captain Rusty and Taylor and Lukas were fun, well-informed, and showed us 3 mama/baby whale pairs. It was a ton of fun. We even saw a whale named Flame who has been on the cover of National Geographic.

I booked this tour thru Viator after researching a bunch of whale tour operators available in Juneau. I decided to sign up for this tour as their 11am tour time coincided with my agenda from the Ruby Princess cruise I was on. We ended up going a bit over time due to the unexpected, yet very amazing opportunity to have seen seven whales (moms and calves) in one tour. They just popped up everywhere, it was truly great to see all of them spouting and diving at different times throughout. The group got very involved with figuring out what the names of the whales were based on their tail markings (I think we kept seeing Ember!). Shout out to naturalist Charlotte Bond for her informative and fun narration of the whole experience. Charlotte delivered exceptional customer service with my situation, in which I was running late to get to another tour scheduled at 2:30pm. Charlotte contacted the ABAK tour company, called me an Uber, and made sure I made it to ABAK 's warehouse for my afternoon tour. I am grateful for her taking care of me while running the tour, as this was far beyond what I expected. Thanks again Charlotte!!!
