San Diego Whale Watching Cruise

Overview
Whale watching season is all year long in San Diego! Our team at Next Level Sailing provides the optimal experience with guides so experienced we received a 100 percent success rate during winter whale watching when spotting the King of the Deep.

We are one of the best outdoor activities to do in San Diego. Gray whale watching season spans from mid-December through April. Blue whales and fin whales are seen feeding in San Diego from April - August. Humpback whales and minke whales are seen throughout the year, particularly in the spring, summer, and fall. Aboard our 141-foot sailing yacht, the Yacht America, you will see a plethora of whales firsthand in their natural habitat. In addition to whales, we also see dolphins and sea lions, and an abundance of naval activity. Don't be surprised if you see an F-18 fly overhead!

First time sailing and visiting San Diego with my boyfriend. Great experience! Dress warm for this trip. The crew was great and served us free snacks and water. It is a large sailing ship with heavy sails. There were no whales but the captain invited us back for a free trip during peak whale season. Saw a large family of Pacific wild dolphins and new born calves. A magnificent sight to see.

I had never been on a sailing ship before, so I was nervous. No need! It was a wonderful adventure. Our crew was helpful and knowledgeable. We were invited to help hoist the sails but were also welcome to just sit and watch. The sea cooperated with my stomach (I had "seabands" on - found at the pharmacy on Rosecrans St.- just in case). The crew was generous with blankets, snacks, and sodas (and there was a restroom on board below deck!). We dressed in layers, hats, and sunglasses. I highly recommend binoculars, too. Marie, the chocolate lab, began to bark when she smelled animals in the water. We sailed through a large pod of dolphins, hopping to and fro on both sides of the ship and you could hear them breathe! Capt. Troy kept us out a bit longer and we found two humpbacks gently coming to the surface and diving again. As we turned to go back to SD, we looked back to see two more of them breach!! It was a great experience!!
