This was my first time whale watching and even though it was 'out of season' I learned that whales pass through SD year around. I set my expectations low because of anticipated volume but there is a daily log of sightings so I was optimistic that I would get to see 'something'. We only had to go out about 5 miles before our first sighting. It was an awesome sight to behold. Nature at its finest.
There were a total of 6 blue whale sightings on our day, but even if we hadn't seen anything the crew would have stolen the show. The crew was very knowledgeable about the whales, their migration and feeding, gave us some history and biology lessons. They were also VERY friendly. All of the staff went out of their way to make sure you were enjoying your trip.
If you've never been on a whale watching trip and even if you don't get to see any wildlife, a day off the coast of San Diego on a boat is worth the price of admission.
