This was my second time doing whale watching in San Diego. I suggest that you try to find a Groupon to save 50% off the normal fare. The Groupon price is usually $39 for a three hour trip. You can buy drinks and food on board the ship but I suggest that you eat before you board and stick to water. There is a small cafe at the boat dock. The best place to sit is on the top deck, the bow and the rear of the first deck. We saw a mega swarm of dolphins as they raced along side the boat. We saw one blue whale. We hung around it for an hour and watched it dive and surface 3 times. The crew is outstanding. They are friendly, helpful and professional. The best time of the year to do this is December to April when the gray whales are migrating, but you will see something interesting any time of the year if you take the tour. As you leave the ship, they give you a 50% off coupon for a return visit.

We've been on other whale watching excursions but this group takes the prize. We saw blue whales, hundreds of dolphins, a leaping shark, seals, sea lions, birds. It was exciting and well done. Highly recommend this activity. However, if you're prone to sea sickness just do yourself and everyone else a favor and find something else to do.

My husband and I took this tour however was not as lucky as other reviewers who got to see many whales. We only saw two whales, couple dolphins and seals at the marine where we boarded. Out on the ocean it gets cold and windy so bring a windbreaker. For us it was boring as we did not get to see much but the woman announcing had still done a good job trying to stir up excitement with what little we saw.
