as good as everyone says it is. We are two adults, no children with us and only went because of its reputation and to mainly see the polar bears and koalas. We were not disappointed on any level. Yes it is expensive to get in and we only did a whistle stop tour but if you make a day of it it is well worth it. Take at least a snack and drink if you are going for more than a couple of hours although lots of outlets they come at a price. We got our ticket through Gocity. They do several options 1 2 3 days or build your own, with the latter as we did you just have to be doing 2 activities and get 20% off simple on line and you dont have to print off the ticket they all used the QR code. There are plenty of other attractions in Balboa park to at least make up the second activity and you have 30 days to use it (on the build your own) You save more with some of the other passes but have limited time to use them. Back to the zoo. The Polar bears were amazing, possible just lucky with timing but 2 were playing and swimming in the pool when we were there, could have just spent all my time watching them. Their enclosure is very good, they even have 2 snow machines and had fish in frozen blocks to play with. The koala were all dozing in their 'trees' I counted at least 16 of them. All the animals were saw were in excellent condition and I was very impressed with their enclosures, the elephants must have had over an acre to themselves. Free parking It is a large zoo so plenty of walking, there is a bus around though. Good paths and signs and lots of employees around to point you in the right direction. Wish we could have stayed longer

The animals looked and acted very healthy. The topography is wonderful so you can see lots of animals. My only complaint is there is SO much up-selling. Each "adventure" was an add-on. The cost of just the basic park is expensive without these add-ons.
